CHONGQING WEST – RAILWAY STATION

The ultra-thin ceramic slabs in Kerlite by Cotto d’Este were chosen for the construction of the vertical surfaces of the new Chongqing West Railway Station located in the Shapingba district of Chongqing.
The interior of the station, the second largest after Xi’an North in southwest China, was designed by China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co., the leading construction company in China.
The Cotto d’Este surfaces cover the walls of the new, five storey station, with a total area of 119,600 square meters. For the realization of this magnificent project, the Travertino version of the Kerlite Exedra collection was chosen. This surface, which is characterized by the utmost fidelity to one of the most famous, ancient types of marble, comes in 100×300 cm with a thickness of 3.5mm, and covers the internal walls of the structure, generating chromatic and stylistic continuity in all areas.

In fact, the advantages of Kerlite make it a unique instrument for large-scale projects, opening the way to increasingly innovative architectural uses. Thanks to its reduced thickness (to 3.5mm), its large dimensions (up to 100×300 cm) and its strength – from the glass fibre reinforcement – the slabs in Kerlite guarantee maximum quality and performance.
The overall impact of the Chongqing West – Railway Station project is an effect of depth, thanks to the veining of the marble, which creates a striking contrast between the antiquity of the stone and the hyper-contemporary nature of the project.
